Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in diced apples and nuts, if using.
  • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, toss the apples in cinnamon sugar before folding them into the batter.
  • Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream.
  • Store leftover cake at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer.
