This French toast casserole is the perfect make-ahead breakfast dish. Made with rich custard-soaked bread, warm spices, and a crispy golden topping, it's a crowd-pleasing dish ideal for holidays or weekend brunch.
1 loaf of French bread, cubed
6 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
½ cup heavy cream
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
Topping:
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 tsp cinnamon
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and place cubed bread inside.
In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Pour the mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
For the topping, mix brown sugar, flour, butter, and cinnamon until crumbly.
Sprinkle topping over the casserole.
Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and set.
