Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot brewed coffee

Fudge Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch cake pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  • Stir in hot coffee until batter is smooth. Pour into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • For frosting, melt butter, then mix in cocoa powder. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Stir in vanilla.

  • Spread frosting over cooled cake and serve.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa for a richer flavor.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
