This easy naan bread recipe makes soft, pillowy naan with simple ingredients. Perfect for curries, wraps, or as a side dish!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

  • Optional: minced garlic, chopped cilantro

Instructions

  • In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add yogurt, olive oil, and egg; mix well.
  • Gradually add flour and salt, mixing to form a soft dough. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
  • Divide dough into equal pieces and roll into thin rounds.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 1–2 minutes per side until golden with bubbles.

  • Brush with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

  • For garlic naan, brush with butter and minced garlic before cooking.

  • Best served fresh but can be stored and reheated.
