Sticky honey chicken is a flavorful dish featuring tender chicken coated in a rich, sweet, and savory honey glaze. This easy recipe combines simple ingredients like soy sauce, garlic, and honey for a deliciously caramelized finish. Serve it with rice or vegetables for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chicken pieces and cook until golden brown and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Pour the honey sauce over the cooked chicken and stir to coat evenly.
  • Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add to the pan. Stir well and let the sauce thicken for 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  • Serve hot with rice or steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, coat the chicken in a light cornstarch layer before frying.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey.
  • Use chicken thighs for juicier results.
