1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

2/3 cup sugar (plus extra for sprinkling)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour.
