Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: garlic powder, paprika
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain excess grease.
In a small bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk.
In a greased casserole dish, layer half the sliced potatoes, followed by half the ground beef, and a sprinkle of cheese. Repeat layers.
Pour the soup mixture evenly over the layers, spreading it with a spatula.
Cover with foil and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
Remove foil, top with remaining cheese, and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, season the beef with garlic powder or paprika while cooking.
Swap cream of mushroom soup for cream of chicken soup if preferred.
Use a mandoline slicer for even, thin potato slices.
