  • 1 pound Sweet Italian Sausage
  • ¾ pound Lean Ground Beef
  • ½ cup Minced Onion
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, crushed
  • 1 (28 ounce) can Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 (6.5 ounce) cans Tomato Sauce
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans Tomato Paste
  • ½ cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons White Sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Fresh Parsley, chopped (divided)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Dried Basil Leaves
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Salt (divided, or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon Fennel Seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 12 pieces Lasagna Noodles
  • 16 ounces Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • ¾ pound Mozzarella Cheese, sliced
  • ¾ cup Parmesan Cheese, grated

Instructions

  • Prepare the Meat Sauce: Cook sweet Italian sausage, ground beef, and minced onion until browned. Add garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, and seasonings. Simmer for 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Cook the Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles in salted water, then drain and set aside.
  • Mix the Cheese Filling: Combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the parsley. Season with a pinch of salt.
  • Assemble the Lasagna: Layer noodles, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and parmesan in a baking dish. Repeat layers.
  • Bake: Cover with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 minutes. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
  • Make sure to drain excess fat from the meat to avoid a greasy lasagna.
  • Lasagna can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight, then baked the next day.
