Delight in this classic sausage and peppers sandwich with mozzarella cheese. Juicy Italian sausage, vibrant bell peppers, and gooey cheese make this a flavorful meal perfect for any time.

Ingredients

  • 2 bell peppers (cut into strips)
  • 1 yellow onion (cut into ½ inch slices)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 6 Italian sausage links (hot and/or sweet, about 1 pound)
  • 6 hoagie rolls
  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add bell peppers and onions, seasoning with salt and black pepper. Cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes.
  • In a separate pan, cook the Italian sausage links over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Slice the hoagie rolls and place a sausage link in each roll.
  • Top with cooked peppers and onions, then sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the top.
  • Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use both hot and sweet Italian sausage for a mix of flavors.
